What a easy sudoku asks of you
On an easy sudoku you can always find the next move. Each grid on this page starts with 38 to 45 clues, enough that scanning rows, columns and boxes for the one place a digit can go carries you from the first cell to the last. You should not need to sit and stare, and you should not need to guess.
That makes easy the right level for learning the puzzle, for a child solving alongside an adult, and for a fifteen-minute wind-down. It is also the level to print for a group: an easy grid keeps a room of mixed abilities moving at about the same pace, where a harder one would leave half of them stuck on page one.
These are still real sudoku, made the same way as the expert grids. The generator builds a complete solution, then removes clues one at a time, and keeps each removal only if a solver confirms the puzzle still has exactly one answer. An easy grid gives you more of that answer on the page when you sit down.

Between 38 and 45 of the 81 cells start filled in. The exact number varies from puzzle to puzzle, and you can read it under each grid.
How long does an easy sudoku take to solve?
Most solvers finish one in five to ten minutes. Your first few will take longer if you are new to sudoku, and the time drops once scanning for single candidates becomes a habit.
Are easy puzzles good for children?
Yes, they make the right starting point. A child who can count to nine can solve one, because each step asks where a digit cannot go, with no need to plan several moves ahead. Print four or six per page so a sheet lasts an afternoon.
Do I still need to guess on an easy puzzle?
No. Each puzzle here has one solution, and logic alone reaches it. If you catch yourself guessing on an easy grid, you have missed a deduction somewhere on the board.
